The STEM initiative and implementation of CASE in the classroom
- Intro: A good Ag Ed program differs from other education classrooms because it is a very hands on learning. With the implementation of CASE into ag programs it helps to build in more hands on learning opportunities. Having this type of learning system.
- This would be a great time to talk about how a good Ag Ed program differs from other forms of education by being very hands on. Emphasize how that translates to a deeper understanding and job readiness by being closer connected to the real world than a text book lead classroom
- Alright, so my high school had a CASE system. The case system is a great tool for teachers to use. It is a tool to help curriculum , but unfortunately some teachers use only the curriculum that they have.I had a great teacher who used it as a tool. Some things we have been able to do because of CASE is, doing labs in class, and being able to tie them back in with the greenhouse or grape. Another great thing about CASE is that as a new teacher it can really help you know what to teach if you don't know. It can also help you come up with ideas if you run out. Def make sure to check out the CASE curriculum website. If a teacher is able to tie it in with their own curriculm it makes it an even better resource.

- I do have only one complaint about the whole CASE system. It would be that there is no leadership classes or chances for students to stand out and really figure out how to give great speeches or interview skills.

The importance of SAE and the Ag Ed model
- Intro:The Ag Ed model is a three legged chair. It needs classroom/laboratory, FFA, and SAE to allow it to stand.. The reason SAE are an important piece of this model because of the work based learning. It allows students to work in real world settings, this allows them to apply what they learn in the classroom or in the lab in a career centered environment. It is the only program to look like this is all forms of education. Good, strong SAE programs should be the main focus and the foundation when building an Ag Ed program.

The Ag Ed Instructor shortage and recruitment/retention initiatives
- Open with on April 4th of this year we had 9 job opening in Ag positions in the state of Iowa. Each FFA program has an average of 80 students in a program, the amount of students affected by this is tremendous, I personally have felt this when my home advisor left our program for a job in the industry, we were left with a full-time sub that didn’t have any experience with Ag. This is a very true story for many different ag programs. When they finally got a new
- Intro: There is a shortage of Ag teachers across the state, and even across the nation, and this doesn’t appear to be clearing itself up anytime soon. There are less college students entering with this major. Teachers are getting job offers from other parts of the Ag industry. My ag teacher told me, “It takes a lot of time and energy to be an ag teacher. There is some increase in pay compared to other teachers but it still not at the level of other careers.” Some schools lack funding to have an ag program. Ag programs can be extremely expensive with things like (greenhouse, shop, aquaculture unit, etc.) It’s harder to get recruitment in this field because people would rather do less work to be a teacher. Ag teachers have many different roles: instructor, advisor, business manager; this is all apart of their one job, this doesn’t even include having a family. Having an Ag program is a program not a class. It takes commitment from the community to help make it successful. This is why it is much easier to replace a core teacher such as a math or english teacher compared to an ag teacher because the learning is not just in the textbook there is history and a tradition in this program as well.

Demographics in Ag Ed and their importance
- Intro: Ag Ed demographics are always changing just like in the ag industry and our nation. Demographics should be used to get agriculture’s message into the more urban areas. In agriculture we love to preach to the one’s who already understand it, but FFA has that opportunity to go against this and reach the kids that have little to no experience with agriculture. This will help them to understand the industry along with the whys and hows within it.
- Forever changing just like the industry and our nation. This is a great thing and should be harnessed to get Ag's message into more urban areas. In agriculture we love to preach to the choir so to speak. FFA has the opportunity to go against this and reach kids that have not experience in agriculture and help them to understand the 'whys' and 'hows' of the industry.

CTE’s role in helping students be career ready upon graduation
Intro: Career and Technical Education is helping students to be career ready by graduation. It prepares students to be career ready by giving them experiences in career setting simulations. Due to SAEs and FFA agriculture is a step ahead of other CTEs. Most CTEs have classrooms and labs, however Ag has two more important components. It even has it in the FFA motto. Learning to Do is the Classroom. Doing to Learn is the Labs. Earning to live is the SAEs, and finally Living to Serve is the FFA component.
